Public museums and collections

The Mineralogy Museum

The University of Strasbourg’s Mineralogy Museum dates back to 1762. Across two exhibition rooms, you can explore over 2,500 specimens in historic display cases, as well as scientific instruments, crystallographic models, meteorites and fluorescent minerals that tell the story of mineralogy in Strasbourg.

The museum is currently closed due to building works.

The Seismology Museum

Located in a former seismological station, one of the world’s earliest observatories of its kind, the University of Strasbourg’s Seismology Museum invites visitors of all ages to explore the mysteries of earthquakes and the origins of seismology as a scientific discipline.

The university's historic campus

Built at the end of the 19th century in the Neustadt district, the University of Strasbourg’s historic campus is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Throughout the year, the Jardin des sciences – the University of Strasbourg's science outreach centre that connects research with the public – invites you to discover the campus from a new perspective through guided tours. Choose from five themed visits: the Seismology Museum, the Astronomical Observatory, the Palais universitaire, the Botanical Garden and the Imperial Campus.

University collections

The university also holds many collections that are not open to visitors. These include collections in anatomy, astronomy, Egyptology, ethnography, pharmacy and physics, as well as the University of Strasbourg's herbarium. Used in teaching, they are also a valuable resource for research.

Art on campus

The University of Strasbourg is home to more than ten contemporary artworks integrated into buildings across its campuses. These works were made possible through a national programme launched in 1951, which allocates 1% of public funding for university construction projects to commissioning art as part of each building.
